How to use Hot Cocoa

A few tips to help you get the most out of Hot Cocoa, from the basics on up.

  1. 1Welcome to Hot Cocoa!! Take a look around and get to know your new writing surface 🔥🍫
  2. 2Scenes can be used to outline your chapters, but do whatever feels most natural to you.
  3. 3Everything you write saves automatically, so no need to hit a save button.
  4. 4Not everyone likes it dark: you can switch to light mode in Settings.
  5. 5Add all of your reference material right beside your writing. Each chapter gets its own library.
  6. 6Music links can be individual songs, albums, playlists, even YouTube videos.
  7. 7Add a book cover whenever you feel ready. Ask around for artist recommendations!
  8. 8Add book-level reference material on the Book Info page.
  9. 9Turn on automatic daily backups to keep your writing safe.
  10. 10Drag scenes to change their order, even from one chapter to another.
  11. 11Use Export to save and download a copy of your book. You can also export specific chapters.
  12. 12On the Book Info page, you can choose which sections count towards your total word count.
  13. 13Did you know you can use Hot Cocoa even when you're offline?
  14. 14Right click a chapter to open it side-by-side with the current one.
  15. 15Use the ••• in the Library to share your chapter with others.
  16. 16Share chapters with your writing group for feedback!
  17. 17Highlight text to add comments in shared chapters.
  18. 18Change display and notification settings to fit your preferences.
